Prague has blossomed into a confident cosmopolitan city since the 1989 Velvet Revolution, yet the beauty of this historic jewel remains unspoilt. Prague Castle and St Vitus' Cathedral dominate the skyline and the whole castle complex should be top of any visitor's list. Make a point of locating Wenceslas Chapel inside the cathedral, an outstanding example of Bohemian Gothic design built in the 14th century.
The walls are simply stunning, embossed with semi-precious stones and rich frescos. Walk back to the old town across the famous Charles Bridge where many of Prague's artists now display their works for your perusal. The Old Town Square is a fairytale delight in the evening when the lights pick out the baroque facades and spires of its buildings, take a seat in one of the restaurant terraces and just soak in the atmosphere!
